Kalama Meditation Center was founded on May 15th, 2014. The center is a US-based 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization committed to supporting Buddhist monks (bhikkhus), nuns (bhikkhunis), lay men and lay women. Our focus is to offer “Insight Meditation” rooted in the Theravada Buddhist teachings of wisdom, compassion, and loving kindness. These practices help us to develop awareness and compassion, giving rise to greater peace and happiness.
Kalama Meditation Center is a diverse Buddhist Dhamma refuge, offering a unified space for spiritual guidance, healing, meditation, and deep reflection across multiple traditions.
Theravada (The Way of the Elders): Rooted in the original teachings of the Buddha, our foundation remains grounded in simplicity, insight meditation, loving kindness, and the peaceful lifestyle of our resident monk. The gardens feature the sacred Mother Earth Mae Thorani, as well as the golden statue of Phra Sivali, revered as a symbol of prosperity, abundance, and blessings.
Mahayana: Kalama also offers spaces that support healing, compassion, and reflection, including the white marble Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva by the creek, the Happy Buddha statue welcoming joy and contentment, and the large black bell, traditionally associated with awakening and mindful intention.
Tibetan Style: Our Tibetan Terrace, nestled in the peaceful woods, offers a quiet space for meditation and contemplation. Surrounded by nature and the soothing sounds of the nearby creek, practitioners can sit in stillness with the Medicine Buddha present as a source of healing inspiration.
Whether you follow a specific Buddhist lineage or simply seek peace, Kalama Meditation Center welcomes all who wish to deepen their spiritual practice in a sacred and supportive environment.
The abbot provides guidance to lay practitioners through the teachings of the Buddha, helping individuals cultivate wisdom, compassion, mindfulness, and inner peace in daily life.
Kalama Meditation Center is committed to creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, and peaceful environment for all who visit the property for practice, reflection, and spiritual growth.
